Lulzbot Mini 2

I personally have not used this exact printer, but I have used past models by Lulzbot and they always make great products.  Unfortunately, as of late, their prices seem to be a bit higher than their competitors, but if you want a reliable machine that is easy to tweak to your likings, you can’t beat Lulzbot.

The LulzBot Mini 2 is the desktop companion from LulzBot, creators of the legendary TAZ family of printers. The Mini 2 is a portable, desktop-friendly manufacturing machine ready to tackle your next project. The Mini 2 has always been great as a take-it-with-you 3D printer, and it features an onboard LCD screen with SD card reader, making the printer 100% independent, not requiring a connected computer to print. Other upgrades include a belt-driven Z-Axis, Aerostruder tool head, Einsey Rambo controller board with Trinamic 2130 stepper motor drivers and a powerful 40-watt heater cartridge.

The Mini 2 features the Modular Print Bed System, a two piece replacement for the standard LulzBot heated build plates. The Modular system separates the heater and the print surface, making the build plate removable and providing more print surfaces. Print on the standard PEI, or flip the plate over for a raw glass surface. Use Magigoo for maximum adhesion to glass, or add BuildTak sheets for a universal setup. The Modular Print Bed system has been an excellent upgrade to the LulzBot line of 3D  printers, and now these benefits are available on the LulzBot Mini 2 out of the box!

The Mini 2 comes standard with the Aerostruder tool head; a smaller, lighter, and more precise tool head offering a more constrained filament path. This offers higher performance with flexibles, since there is no place for the filament to wander. Retraction with rigid materials is improved and thanks to the Aerostruder’s 3:1 gear ratio, whether it is precision extrusion of small parts or fast printing with larger ones, the Aerostruder is ready for anything.

LulzBot has done away with the vertical lead screws for the Mini 2, and the tool head now moves in the Z-Axis by means of belts on both sides. This not only makes the motion in the Z-Axis faster but much quieter as well. When the axis is not in motion, the motors are purposely shorted to lock the x-carriage in place. The leveling and overall machine operation are faster and smoother than ever before, providing a more enjoyable 3D printing experience.

With the Mini 2, the brains of the operation have received an upgrade as well! The new unit features an Einsey Rambo controller board with integrated Trinamic TMC2130’s for high-performance operation and supreme quietness. The Mini 2 is intended to be your desktop companion, ready whenever you need a 3D print on a moments notice. The quiet operation makes the Mini 2 a stealthy deskmate, letting you focus on other aspects of your work while your 3D printer does its job.
